About Kimberly Kalfas
Kimberly Kalfas was born in Medina County and grew up in a small town called Chatham, Ohio. A town where there were many farms, an intersection in the center with nothing but the local market, a one-pump gas station, an elementary, and the VFW hall. The once in a year event would be the Apple Butter Festival, celebrating fall, and the slow move into winter, with fresh Chili, Apple Cider, Apple Butter...amongst the beautiful foliage of Oak and Maple, and the smell of wood burning on the fire. When at home, she would play with tadpoles in her lake, sit in the trees listening to the birds, running in the rainstorm, and her favorite, chasing the ducks. She especially like George, her "pet" mallard, the stud of the bunch. Besides being in nature, Kim would go to school, and participate in many activities. Her favorites were always science and the arts! She remembers Earth day at her elementary, where her class had to be Italy, her first science fair where she would teach others about TMJ syndrome, and all the while, being in plays, taking music lessons, and dancing tap, jazz, and ballet. Growing up with a family members that were often sick, she always knew that she wanted to be a doctor. She would complete her early education with honors classes, receiving high marks all the way into high school. She was a Student of the Month of Medina County, and attended the Medina County Charity Ball as a debutante for her efforts in school activities, extracurricular activities, and grades. She would attend Ohio State where she would participate in her dorm student council as treasurer, be a member of the incomprable Ohio State University Marching Band (TBDBITLL) as a horn player, and graduate with a pre-med curriculum, Bachelor's of Science in Microbiology. She would take a break from school, and work at The Ohio State University Medical Center for two years while exploring options for medical education. Here she would work closely with patients and start her journey into the world of medicine. After working in the medical field, she would turn to naturopathic medicine, as it was the perfect blend of nature and medicine. She wanted to learn more about healing, not just the curing of acute disease. Kim would decide to attend the Havard of Natural Medical Schools, Bastyr University located close to Seattle, Washington. She attended Bastyr for 5 years, where she was trained didactically and clinically, to become a naturopathic physician. (If you would like to learn more about naturopathic physicians, please go to www.naturopathic.org. ) Finally, she moved back to her home of Ohio, where she trained with a fellow practicing ND, to do a year long residency working with clients with a range of health concerns. It was time to set sail on her own, and now you can see her in Bexley, the beautiful city of trees, where she once again will be with the maples and oaks...and of course, the Buckeyes!
